Isolate high-risk infection scenarios

As COVID-19 spread across the globe, the virus spurred countries to be more aggressive about letting ships into port. Countries began imposing travel restrictions and closing their borders to outside visitors. An estimated 100,000 people were left stranded, placing crew health and welfare, global supply chains, and the safe operation of maritime trade at considerable risk.

Stringent measures must now be imposed to guarantee the safety of crew, passengers, and all those who work offshore as restrictions are slowly lifted and the time for returning to sea draws closer.

Sam Watson, Allocate Product Specialist, provides an overview of three OneView tools that can quickly identify seafarers who may be at heightened risk of contamination and the steps necessary to stop the spread of infection.

  1. Proximity Tracking
Should a member of your workforce become symptomatic, OneView is able to generate a report showing those working and sleeping in close proximity and identify people who may require self-isolation. Vigilant tracking of people and their bunking configurations will enable ships to dock and significantly increase the likelihood of COVID-free seafarers to disembark promptly.
  2. Access Control
In the event of someone on board becoming infected, OneView is able to identify areas of the vessel that need to be isolated to reduce spread of contamination and those who have recently been in the vicinity so they can be segregated from the remainder of crew and passengers.
  3. Case Management
It is estimated that crew members have 1 in 11 chance of becoming sick or being injured while on duty. This can occur due to spending time in countries with low quality healthcare; exposure to epidemic diseases or sudden climate changes; dangers posed by ship and port environments; exposure to devices with sudden electromagnetic, vibration and sound radiation; and delays in medical assistance. With One View you can create cases for tracking staff illnesses, contagious infections, and record other events such as injuries. These actions will minimise the number of people directly exposed to contamination, which will support swift disembarkation upon arrival at port. Its primary function is to track and manage issues that might be affected by the law so the Case Management feature acts as a record should there be a need to report incidents to the authorities.
